Re: Im new to fishing, help please

Why dont you just tie your main line to a swivel, then put the loop of your hooklength through the other end of the swivel, then put your hook through that loop and pull tight? that's how i do mine

Re: Im new to fishing, help please

I always use the half blood knot too - never fails when tied correctly. Test each and every new hook that you tie before putting bait on it. I always make sure my hooks lie straight from my line to reduce the chance of the fish being spooked by touching the line with their mouths.
When losing your hooks, if your line is straight the line was probably broken. Any kinks on the end of your line should indicate the hook slipped and your knot was not tied properly.
Good luck!

I also use the half blood knot, mainly because it is just as easy to un-do as it is to tie, remember to moisten the knot with a bit of spit to reduce friction when tightening

Re: Im new to fishing, help please

I used to use the half blood knot (still do sometimes) but noticed that even when moistened it does damage fine diameter monofilament. That's why I've switched over almost entirely to the Palomor knot. Because so little of the knot involves wrapping the line around itself it doesn't really weaken the line at all. Also there's no danger of slippage which still can exist even with a tucked half blood knot.

Re: Im new to fishing, help please

i would imagine you are loose fish due to your knots pulling through on the eye of the hook its self.
As mentioned before, its best to practise the knots before hand at home.
An easy way to store your ready tied hooks is to wrap them around a piece of stiff cardboard. Quite easy to end up tangled up if you try and make a loop as bought hooks to nylon are.
