| Credit Where Credit Is Due Just thought I would share this. Some of you might remember that I took my nephew fishing for the first time a few weeks ago and that he lost his dad and never really got the chance to go fishing with him etc. Thread Here Well after the success of our first trip I thought I'd try and surprise him by getting him his own rod and reel. I knew I had a spare reel that had only been used once before that he could have and thought I had a spare rod too. Unfortunately on inspecting the rod I noticed that there was some damage to it and it would not have been economically viable to get it repaired as it was only a cheap rod to begin with. I then started to look around to see if I could afford to buy him a new rod but seeing as the last time I bought a rod was over 10 years ago and that the least I've ever spent on a rod was £80 I really didn't know what you could get. What was for certain was that I couldn't afford £80 or anything like it but didn't know if any of the £30+ type rods where just a complete waste of money. As well as being a member here I'm also a member on the Go Fishing forum which is the forum for the magazine Improve Your Coarse Fishing and Angling Times. I posted a question on their forum asking if anyone could recommend a suitable rod for a teenage complete beginner. Within minutes I got a reply from someone at the magazine who simply said "Give me your address and I'll send you a rod" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() True to his word the rod turned up yesterday. He did say that it was a budget rod but it is brand new and will be absolutely ideal for my nephew and will serve him very well for a few years. It's a 13ft Power Waggler with a pretty nice through action and will easily enable him to land just about anything he's likely to catch. I've always known fellow anglers to be kind and helpful people but I was truly stunned at this act of generosity, I was and still am speechless and I know that my nephew will love his new rod and reel. These days bad experiences are shared like wildfire so I though I'd share this bit of good news and show that there are still a lot of very good people out there! __________________ I've now added a fishing blog to my website Here |

| Re: Credit Where Credit Is Due theres some decent folk amongst the hoards of wasters ! When i ran my tackle business my biggest downfall was giving kit away to mates... and the elderley...and juniors....and novices................. ![]() Shame he's not a sea angler because i could have sorted him out with all the end tackle he needed ! Hope he gets many years of great fishing experiences with his new prezzie ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |
