What is a hair rig?

What is a hair rig because i have no idea? Do i use a stronger or lighter line because i have 10 lb and i have 3 lb line in a small spool and also 3 lb and a hook attatched in a seperate bag i just dont know what its for

Should the hook length line be stronger or weaker than my main line?

Hook lengths should be weaker than the main line that way if the line does break it will be just the hook length that snaps meaning that the fish isn't then towing around your float/feeder/weights. There are times when this isn't always the case but in such situations the hooklink must be able to detach itself from the mainline should the mainline break which is known as a 'safe rig'.
