Line Weights I'm not sure what strength line to use for my main line. I'm planning on having two spools loaded with line, one with a light line for general coarse fishing & one with a heavier line for when I try carping. What weights should I be looking at? Thanks in advance M

Re: Line Weights Ive a lovely wee shakepeare reel with a spare spool. One is loaded with 6lb (i use this for general fishing on the quiver tip) and the spare one with 12lb (i use this as a secondary pike reel and spin with it as well). Then i have a shimano baitrunner filled with 18lb line for hardcore piking

Re: Line Weights It's difficult to give accurate breaking strains because there are so many permutations but as a general guide: Float Fishing for Silver Fish: 3lb-5lb Ledgering for Silver Fish: 3lb-6lb Float Fishing for larger species like Chub, Tench and Specimen Bream etc: 4lb-8lb Ledgering for larger species like Chub, Tench and Specimen Bream etc: 5lb-8lb Float Fishing for Tench and Carp: 5lb-8lb Ledgering for Tench and Carp: 8lb-16lb Pike Fishing: 12lb-16lb Like I say, a very generalised guide that doesnt take into account your rod, reel, hook, float, weights or whether swims are snaggy, fast flowing water, what species you could hook using your particular bait in a particular swim, distance you are fishing etc etc etc __________________ I've now added a fishing blog to my website Here
