Suffolk Rivers Off freshwater fishing tomorrow for the first time in years, and i know of one or two local stretches of river that are free to fish, but, does anyone know of any stretches in the Felixstowe or Ipswich areas. I fished the river gipping in Ipswich years ago when my boy's were little, but i'm not sure now where to go. If you can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. All the best....Garry.

Re: Suffolk Rivers Hi I have fished the river at the back of Halfords. I used to prebait the swim the day before with bread and the fish with bread or red maggots which resulted in some nice catches of Tench I normally used a pole fished to the far bank lillies, it is fairly deep, I am sure if bankside disturbance is keep low the Tench will feed on the near bank I hope the above is of use, let us know how you get on Good luck Darrell

Re: Suffolk Rivers Hi Darrell, Thanks for the reply. Just had a look on google maps and i think that's the area where i fished years ago, it looks OK so i think i'll give it a try in that area. I can see on the map that i can probably park quite close to where it is, which is a bonus. I'll let you know how it goes. I have been told that it's hard to find a river in this area that has been kept clear enough to fish in. Apparently the river i fished as a boy is really badly over grown. Thanks again...Garry.

Re: Suffolk Rivers From memory there is a path that walkers use running along the river so it used to be clear, If you need to clear a swim at least it proves it has not been hammered. clear the swim the night before and prebait for a early start and you should be have some sport Good luck Darrell

Re: Suffolk Rivers Hi Darrell, i really should have spent my money on a day ticket at one of the local lakes. I thought that the reason for having to pay a license fee was so that the rivers and waterways were kept tidy, maybe i got that wrong. I found it almost impossible to get set up and enjoy the day, and i wasn't the only one. Two men with their young sons also arrived only to leave immediately. I ended up following them to a local free lake... which... no i won't go on this will turn into rant. Suffice to say, i've learned a lesson and will put my hand into my pocket in future and get a day ticket (just means i won't be able to go as often as i would like). They say you're never too old to learn. Thanks for the advice though...Garry.
