Need help, new to fishing

Hi,
I am completely new to fishing and need some help with
buying a reel.
I bought a 12ft telescopic rod on ebay for a fiver but it didn't come
with a reel and i need help finding a reel.
On the rod it says it is a go fishing geo logic model and it has this
written on it:
220g - 7 1/4oz
then there was a pic of a reel with
1.1 / 1kg
2.4/4lb
underneath iit
and something that looks like this ¬ with
5-30g
3/16 - 1 1/16 oz
under it

I hope these mean something to someone
I contacted the seller but she said she wasn't a fisher and it was her
ex husbands.
I hope someone can help

Boy is that the wrong thing to say on a fishing forum! Unless of course you were talking about sea fishing in which case you've bought the wrong rod.

Re: Need help, new to fishing

Let us know what you want to do. You might also be about to do something illegal so if you are honest we can also warn you of the response you just might get. Bear in mind that here in England the Environmental Agency can confiscate ANYTHING used in poaching. IF they nab you after you get in your car then they can leave you stood in your undies by the side of the road. They don't take your clothes but they will take your car and you will end up with a criminal record. It just is not worth it. But what the heck, when do any of us ever see the EA guys anyway. Heck of a gamble.

No seriously if we can help we will. You may be about to find out that the rod may not be the provider of free fish you thought it was though.

Pete.

A permit doesnt mean you can take fish to eat, keep or do anything else but return them alive to the water! The ONLY exceptions to this are sea fishing and game fishing for trout & salmon. If you take ANY other fresh water fish this is classed as poaching.

Stupid? No. Ignorant? Perhaps.

Re: Need help, new to fishing

We don't mean to upset you, we are simply telling it as it is; although in Southern Ireland taking the odd river fish could be allowed however you will have to read the local fishing bylaws to make sure before you try to remove any coarse fish from the rivers and loughs.

Re: Need help, new to fishing

Whoa! I think you are taking offense WAY to early.

From your post it appeared that you had no knowledge at all about fishing. We can tell you how to fish but if you then get your collar felt because we neglected to tell you what the score is with licenses etc. you'd have been REALLY p'ed off.

Start killing fish , even with a permit, in the wrong place and you are also likely to end up getting grief from other anglers as Ireland has been plagued with people taking coarse fish and eating them . Feelings are running very high on this topic.

No one is suggesting that you are asking for poaching tips, we're just clarifying the statement "not sure what type of fish just want to get something for my dinner". Do this is the wrong place and you could get in a whole world of trouble. A permit does not allow you to just do what you want.

That's all we were clearing up.

I virtually guarantee you will get a similar response on any other forum too. If not then they don't give a stuff and would let you find out the hard way.

Don't read in to responses what isn't there. We're here and willing to help.
