| Built in bait stops I came across some hair rigs the other day with built in bait stops , just wondered if anyone has used these and if they are any good. I wont be buying any but I might make some myself. cheers Madtwat __________________ Species 2011.. Common carp,Mirror carp,Pike,Rudd,Dace,Eel,Bream,Perch,Roach,Barbel, Chub |

| Re: Built in bait stops If they are Korum hooks with hairs/baitstops whipped on the shank which you need a small needle to push the stop through the bait; then I sometimes use them to mount pre-drillled pelets meat etc. I haven't had them straighten out yet. I just wish the hair came in different lengths or was adjustable; It is slghtly too long if you want to use a single 7mm pellet for my liking. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |

| Re: Built in bait stops Cheers for the reply , I was pondering over this last night and came to the conclusion that they are not as good as they sound. Firstly you cannot match the stop to your chosen bait and secondly the costs would be far greater than just buying plastic stops __________________ Species 2011.. | Re: Built in bait stops Korum Quickstops is what they are called. Yes they do work out more expensive BUT they do have their place and not just for those that don't know how to tie a hair. I have a selection of Quickstop hooks as well as 'normal' hooks and yes, I do use the 'normal' hooks more often but the Quickstops are useful to have in your bag. I tend to use them on pre-drilled pellets but I've also used them when using sweetcorn as I know I can fit 2-3 grains on the hair (depending on hook size). The Quickstop itself is reasonably strong and can even be pushed through Hali Hooker pellets which although technically hookable pellets are not exactly soft. The only weakness in using Quickstops, in my opinion, is just that - they are a little weak. If you are using very soft pellets, corn etc then there is no problem at all but on harder baits I've found that the hair itself can wear and break and the Quickstop sometimes buckles. In match/speed fishing the Quickstops come into their own I think, because it's a lot faster to bait with a Quickstop needle then to using a standard baiting needle, hair and stop. __________________ I've now added a fishing blog to my website Here |

| I like the cotton hairs as they are very supple and the dark red whipping on the shank reduces any glints from the hook shank; but as Peakoverload said it doesnt take too long before the hairs start to break. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
