You need to make sure the elastic band is threaded on before you put the float on , then slide it down over the float so it sits just under the coloured part or about 1/2 inch down .( im sure its then just weighted below the float ,not either side as the rubber holds it in place ) .You can stick a shot either side and not bother with the rubber also- i think generally the float being set up to sit tight to the line is for trotting it down the river..
As for the pole line i would just take it apart and use the bits ..but yes i expect you could just tie it on ..
You will probably get better help from the more experienced coarse anglers but this should help you in the meantime

Re: pls help im confused

if the float has an eye then attach it to the line with shot ethier side (locking shot) then the rest down the line, stick floats for river fishing require float rubbers usaully 3 down thier length with the shot strung out below . as for the pole rig i would do as scottish_ and_ mental suggests take it apart and use the bits you can use a pole float on rod and line they give great presentation in the margins this way , i would not advise tying them on to your main line as this will create a weak point. hope this helps Dave

I think I can what you are asking about here.

This is a potentially HUGE subject.

What do you want to use the floats for ? What kind of fish? Let us know and we can start to fill the gaps in.

I tell you what , close this one down and I'll be less confused and answer on the other one. It's all the Aluminum in the water, makes old b@ggers like me senile. It also makes us somewhat senile as well as causing short term memory problems. That and going senile.

Re: pls help im confused

hi pikey dont feel silly , pass the line through the eye of the float forget using the rubber and hold it in place with shot each side for example if the float you are using is 2AAA then lock the float at the depth you want with a BB shot ethier side of the eye then down the line to the hook place 3 no1 shot which can be spaced out evenly (this allows bait to fall slowly) or bulk them together just above the hooklink (this makes bait fall faster) finally you may want to add a no6 shot onto your line (below the no1 shot) this will make the float sit lower in the water. this is just an example look for a shotting calculator on line and this will help you with the shot needed for the float you are using. hope this helps Dave
