Re: Anybody ever heard of a fish called Mahseeer

I 'm not sure about that one... your most likely thinking about the big catfish.
I remember seeing John Wilson getting in to one and the thing snapped his rod right at the but end.... guess what.. he still landed it.

Got to go now cos the films just starting.

Might go to SLAPTON tomorrow if anyones interested.. If so leave PM and I'll get back to you..
cheers guys.
Nigel

Welcome to the froum Jeebak, i,ve seen a few programmes about Mahseer fishing. I've also heard they use soap for bait. Not sure if it's the same as the stuff you use to wash your hands with though or just a nickname for some local bait. Been to India myself, but did not get a chance to fish. Nice country & nice people. I shall definately take some fishing gear next time I go. What would you recommend as a general outfit for a tourist who wants to travel light? Looking forward to reading your reports.

I would asume that, Yes! just plain bar soap! We chunk it up here for catfish. Ivory is best, it floats off the bottom.
