Main Line? Looking at my reels I need to add some new line to a couple of them but I've never liked joining on another 100m and have always preferred stripping the entire spool and reloading from scratch. The advantage to this is that you have no knots in your line to impede casting, no risk of getting a run and worrying that the fish will strip line off past the knot. The disadvantage is that it's a lot more expensive! For more seasons than I care to remember I have always used Maxima Chameleon simply because after years of trying different lines I found it to be just about the only one that was straight, strong, and didn't weaken drastically when you tied a knot in it. However a 600m spool of this line will cost around £15. Considering I want some 15lb, 12lb, 8lb and 6lb, that's working out to be rather expensive! I was just browsing online for line and came across this: Daiwa Sensor Black " This is without doubt the number one monofil in the UK. It has scooped multiple awards, landed two British record carp and is popular with angler across all disciplines. With a reputation for exceptional reliability, a rugged performance, Sensor has delivered amazing durability, suppleness, consistent diameter and superb knotting." Personally I've never heard of it before but the advertising blurb make it sound good. It is also very, very cheap with a 1885m spool of 8lb line or a 925m spool of 15lb line costing just £5.49. Is anyone using it, has anyone heard of it, is it any good? I'd be particularly interested if anyone can say whether it is as good as, better or worse than Maxima. I don't want to drop below the quality of the Maxima line so will pay up to the Maxima price, I just want to see if I can save some money. __________________ I've now added a fishing blog to my website Here

Re: Main Line? i personally use x-line.... the thing is.. as you have said its all advertising blurb.. to be able to catch record breaking carp you need to fish a lake containing them! you also need a good bait and tactics ect.... the point im trying to make is .. if you put me on a lake with record breaking fish for months on end with a spool of any fishing line eventually i will catch a record breaking fish! all these bigger companys pay fortunes for anglers to fish on these lakes so that they can say the product caught the fish....when in reality the product is just as good as the next in most cases.... i used lots of fishing lines when i did mullet fishing.... if you know anything about mullet fishing they are in my opinion the sea version of a carp! but even warier! the best line i found for mullet was stren fluro blue... i use it for my floater fishing now but i have never been able to source bulk spools of the stuff to fill my baitrunners.....and i think with carp fishing its more the hook length than the mainline.. i hope all this has made sense to someone because reading it back it makes no sense to me ![]() __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!

Re: Main Line? the point im trying to make is .. if you put me on a lake with record breaking fish for months on end with a spool of any fishing line eventually i will catch a record breaking fish! the thing is Dave i want a line i have confidence in not any old shit , i have used sensor for over 20 yrs , had very big fish on it as well . the only reason i now use ultima line is that i got quite a bit for free and found it suberb , suited my angling well http://www.ultimauk.com/carp/power_carp.htm i would not hesitate to go back to sensor , the only draw back is that it can become a bit springy x line is a bit costly for the average angler ,

Re: Main Line? yes i understand that nick....and again its the same thing really... if you have confidence in your line bait rigs bait placement ect then you will catch fish .. regardless of what company sold the equipment to you! as i say the stren fluro blue is/was the best line i ever found for mullet fishing....and if a mullet saw the line or the hook they would eat everything but the bait! using that stuff in 4lb i would get line bite on the float ect as they swim into the line and drag it round with them! what its like at a thicker diameter i dont know? __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!

Re: Main Line? I would always recommend Maxima however the last two seasons I have concentrated on fishing for Zander and the cost to load four reels and refill with Maxima is horrendous so I have tried the Dawia Sensor bulk spools. I have found the line is a bit springy like Nick R has mentioned but apart from that I have had no problems I would recommend re spooling the reels at least twice a year, at under £8lb I can fill my reels so £16.00 for a season is not bad Darrell

Re: Main Line? Daiwa sensor is alright for a few sessions but once it as been stretched it goes curly. I personally use fox camo, ive used it now for 2 years and it never lets me down.
