A Book For Every Angler

I've got and read loads of books on fishing over the years and whilst the more technical books that go into rigs, baits etc are very useful, they can make for a dry read which is why I also love to read books on people experiences, opinions, memoirs etc on fishing.

I've always been a fan of Chris Yates and have read and really enjoyed a couple of his books before and I'm currently 2/3rds of the way through his book "Casting At The Sun".

I really can't recommend this book more highly, if you are into fishing of any kind and especially if you like Carp you will absolutely love this book! It's not a technical book, it doesnt go into his rigs and only briefly mentions a few baits but it really sums up how we all feel about our sport, from the nervous excitement as a kid going on your first fishing trip, how that excitement changes to an obsession, an obsession not to just catch fish but to find that perfect piece of water and how we as anglers often see nature in a way that others do not, what a privilege that is and how that also draws us back to the water. This really is a book that once you start reading you can't put it down until it's finished. Plus the stories of Redmire and his record Carp are truly something else!

It's not the easiest book to track down but I would seriously recommend it. Amazon have it here

Just thought I'd share

i agree, its a good enjoyable book to read,
one book i must recommend is by rod hutchinson called something like " the carp strikes back " i cant remember exactly it was such a long time ago that i read it,i have since lost it
i remember it was a good enjoyable fishing book with some funny moments in there as hutchy recalls some of the capers he took part in on the bank

Re: A Book For Every Angler

I'd suggest folks interested in fishing books, that are not how to manuals, try Medlar Press, printers of many a classic. Inc Yates, Rickards, Inghams, and Ransome, plus loads more.

Re: A Book For Every Angler

I'm 1/2way thru falling in again by Monsieur Yates its quite good some good stories. I'm not really into the instrumental guides or how to books more into my atmospheric stories. Having said that I have recently acquired a copy of the secrets of fly fishing for trout by Ian Ball & thats a real good book for the novice (in my case) & one i'll keep for many a year as a reference book I think very informative.
