Has the magic gone?

Just wondering if its me getting on a bit, but when I was a youngster I was always sleepless on the night before the season opened due to the excitement. I admit that the loss of the close season, (a mistake by the tackle trade I'm told) has some of it.
Now I'm thinking maybe the weekend?
Now we just need some rain. I looked at our club stretch of the Bristol Avon, and it needs some water.

i used to go mad during april and may not being able to fish.

it is nice that you can fish any time of year now , but i wouldnt complain if the old close season was reintroduced for all waters and somehow i think the fish wouldnt complain either

I think if they had a close season in April or May would be a good idea. but only for a month
