Alton Water/Cattwade Stour? I was wondering if anyone fishes or has fished Alton water in the past, I was considering going this friday but may head to a river in the Ipswich/Suffolk area instead since the season will be open. Also considering fishing the picnic area at Cattawade, fished there in march just before close season for the first time without much luck. Any Info would be great. Thanks

Re: Alton Water? Hi I fished it many years ago when we had a heat wave, the water level was well down and it fished its head off, huge bags of Bream, the following couple of years Anglian Water made huge efforts to ensure the water levels would not drop so low and the catch rates declined I visited the place last year and heard that the Bream where not showing as much, keeping out in the middle if the reservoir. I did hear that Anglian Water done a survey to check on fish stocks and the fish finders or what ever they used showed that the huge Bream shoals are still there but the shoals are well out, requiring a cast of over 100mtrs, not easy getting the feed out to hold the shoals There are some huge Carp as well as Pike, Roach, Rudd and Tench I believe they still have some matches there, maybe a look at the local clubs web site might give you some more info on the catches There is a bay to the West of the Rabbits Wood area which I found had some deep water in close and the Bream did move into this area but what time of the year they are there I am not sure Good luck if you go Darrell

Re: Alton Water? Cheers for that, I had heard reports of catches slowing over the last few years. It is such a huge venue I think it would take a season of solid fishing to find out how a small section of it fished. Think I've been swayed to fish the Stour near Cattawade, just need to decide how i'm going to fish it. I will be scoping it out over the next couple of days. How many waters do you have around haverhill? __________________ Fish List-2010: Bream, Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Ghost/Common hybrid, Roach, Rudd, Tench

Re: Alton Water? Hi I have fished Cattawade a couple of times, I used a small spinner with the treble replaced with a single hook and a small piece of worm on the hook, caught loads of Flounder and plaice using this method and lost loads of tackle There are loads of Mullet there but have not found the time to fish for them yet There are a few waters around my way but it depends on what you want to catch, mainly commercials fisheries. The River Stour is near by; it is very shallow and narrow but is good for catching Chub in the cooler months and for short sessions I tend to fish the Ouse and Roswell Pits in Ely, £35.00 a year. Plenty of Bream, Roach, Rudd etc...Some huge Carp, plenty of Pike and a really good head of my favorite species Zander The river in Ipswich near Halfords hold some good fish, I have prebaited an area and had loads of good sized Tench with Roach and Rudd Darrell

Re: Alton Water? I'll be fishing the other side of the weir. I've heard reports of carp and large bream and spoke to a guy in the local tackle shop who said the same suggesting corn to be the bait to use. Alot of people have started launching canoes from the platforms which is a bit annoying but I'm planning on getting there early and staying all day on saturday. I've been keeping my eye on it for the past few weeks and the reeds have really set in now. The ouse and Roswell pits sound really good, do they do day tickets? I'm always on my eye out for new venues. Gav __________________ Fish List-2010: Bream, Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Ghost/Common hybrid, Roach, Rudd, Tench

Re: Alton Water? The day tickets are £5.00 including night fishing, there is one section for members only The venue can be a bit difficult if the water is clear but is the same for any venue I tend to fish at night until the winter months. This season I will be putting a rod out for the big Bream and Carp/Tench, another for the Zeds and one for the elusive Cats If you ever fancy a go let me know and I will try and meet up, My mate is also a part time baliff and fishes the venue two or three times a week so knows what areas are fishing well Darrell

Re: Alton Water? just to let people know, as I tried to find recent info on alton and couldn't anywhere! I fished it today at lemons hill, next to the bridge, and found a spot that was weed free by the second pillar. I sat there for 5 hours without a bite! but I'm sure that was my lack of tallent! lol the weed in general is quite bad there, but it is just about fishable anywhere past twenty meters! I hope this will help anyone thinking of going there!!
