Re: Avon quiver casting weights The Avon Quiver format features a 1.25lb Avon Top as well as a quiver top with three push in tips (1.5, 2 & 3oz) ideal for targeting anything from carp and tench to chub and dace. For seeking to fish at distance or have extra control over large fish in faster running water there is now a 2ft extension piece (supplied with this rod) enabling the rod to be fished at both 11ft and 13ft. so with normally about half a ounce above the rod tc is its max

Re: Avon quiver casting weights I would like to know too, never really had a definitive answer on the test curve to casting weight calculation. __________________ Life is understood looking backwards, but it must be lived forwards.

Re: Avon quiver casting weights The idea of knowing a rod's test curve was to give a guide to its safe range of line strengths and its best casting weight. Walker reckoned the line range at five times the test-curve, plus or minus thirty per cent, but later, most found they could stretch it to a minimum of three , an optimum of five, and a maximum of eight times the test curve. Few quibble with his casting weight calculation of one ounce per pound of test-curve. I found this on another forum from 2003, they are talking about a guy called Richard Walker who caught a big carp on a 1LB test curve rod. i don't know how credible the casting weight calculation is though.

Re: Avon quiver casting weights I think that Richard Walker was using cane when he did those calculations, cane tends to have mre bend than carbon. I use a John Wilson Avon Quiver, and have no worries about lobbing a combination of feeder + groundbait up to 4oz, just be acreful when you cast, and make sure that the line is ruuning freely, not tangled around the tip when casting. Al the same, I tend to try to fish lightly whenever the situation calls for it, esp on pressurised waters. __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril

Re: Avon quiver casting weights here is some info on test curve and casting weights for some grey's rods Model Length (ft / m) Sections Weight (oz / g) Prodigy TX Specimen 1.25lb 12 2 up to 2.5oz Prodigy TX Specimen 1.50lb 12 2 Up to 3.0oz Prodigy TX Specimen 1.75lb 12 2 Up to 3.5oz That seem to equate to 2oz per lb of test curve. the John wilson avon has a TC of 1.25 on its avon top, so guess it to be about 2.5oz. __________________ Life is understood looking backwards, but it must be lived forwards.

Re: Avon quiver casting weights i have the john wilson rod in question ,my main type of fishing on this rod is maggot feeder to a weight of 30g and 40g feeders.i have also used method feeders fox 3oz feeders with boilie and ground bait fully loaded it weighs around 10oz and casts this weight comfortably .i also loaded heavily to around a 1lb of bait just to see if it could cast that much it struggled a bit and the ground bait fell of so filled a pva bag to the same weight it struggled again but managed to cast about 8 metres out (but i wouldnt recomend this)the biggest fish caught was a 17lb carp it handled really well and showed no signs of strain under the weight of the fish in fact out of the three quivers i own this is my favourite rod and its the only one i relly use .
