Last years pellets , still OK or bin 'em. I have still got three packets of unopened halibut pellets in my bait box. Is it worth using them or do you think they will have gone off? Can I grind them and use them as "prebait" as I walk down by the river over the nextg week or two. I don't mind chucking them I just hate wasting stuff too. Thoughts? __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: Last years pellets , still OK or bin 'em. i dont worry how old my pellets are, in fact i find one year old halibut pellets are less brittle and don't break up when i drill them

Re: Last years pellets , still OK or bin 'em. I have often caught fish on Pellets bought the previous season, they don't seem to go off as long as they are kept dry. they don't normally last me much longer than two seasons anyway. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: Last years pellets , still OK or bin 'em. I have caught good on pellets that are older than a year, but I usualy grind up old pellets and make paste with them or mix with ground bait

Re: Last years pellets , still OK or bin 'em. The oils in incorrectly-stored pellets can oxidise and cause metabolic diseases in fish. Ceroidosis of the liver in fish has been reported as being caused by the use of rancid diets. Vitamins and oils go off . Opened or unopened bags makes no difference as the bags are not hermetically sealed I would personally use them in a spod mix ![]() Or in a river where the flowing water will wash the oils away leaving a fresher bait Last edited by NICK R; 06-06-2010 at 04:41 PM.
