I take it you are using fish baits ?

Keep 'em off the bottom - float or paternoster rigs.

Interesting that you are pestered by eels in Suffolk - on other forums you get long diatribes on the scarcity of eels.

They are not scarce in Kent/Sussex/Hants, - thats big eels, medium eels, bootlaces, and last spring I watched a huge run of elvers - and No 3 son fishes the Ribble for barbel and chub and gets pestered by eels there.

The eel conservation industry seems to think I am making it up !

Re: Eels

I use dead Rudd on the deck, I have tried fishing the baits off the bottom but I did not feel confident with using deads off the bottom, I am not keen using lives, lives also attracts Jacks and smaller Zeds

I will give fishing off the bottom another go.

As for the Eel population, the last four/five trips out I have been up all night striking at thin air, Thursday evening I dropped down to a single size 10 treble baited with tiny pieces of Rudd and hooked loads of Eels, most of them approx 2ft long with a few biggins thrown in

I dont mind catching Eels if I am targeting them but I am after the Zander

Thanks for your reply

Darrell

Re: Eels

Bootlace eels used to be a real pest around here. Lucky to get one or two a season now. Did'nt get any last year.... Going to have a night session at our club lake, Crockerton this year & target them with deadbaits & there's been a few bigguns caught there. Got to get hold of a copy of the late John Sidleys book Eels again. Best book on the subject of catching eels ever written.

If you go between now and the 18th I would love to join you as I've never gone after the snakes before only ever had bootlaces whilst roach fishing.
