American Dream...

hi all,

I have been given the oppurtunity to pick a few reels from america, well a specific shop http://www.basspro.com/homepage.html, as my dad has a friend going over next friday and he offered to bring me home some reels home...

As most of yous probably know i am mainly a pike man! but dapple in the art of carping when i get the oppurtinity in the summer on holiday. This is what is steering me towards a 'Baitrunner' style reel that allows for the freespool action.

There is only one Shiman Baitrunner on the site as most of you well know there isnt a great need for them in the US, it is the 'Shimano 4000D', this reel by the Info given is a saltwater reel but i still think i could use it for carp/pike, there is another reel on there that looked suitable, it was a 'Penn Live Liner' or something along those lines. These reels arent exactly cheap so i dont want to put the money into something i am not going to get good use out of!

What are your opinions; Would it suit my style of fishing, or would it be a waste of money? also are there any other reels on there that i have missed that would suit me?

oh and one last thing! is there anything else that is a must have from america that is hard to get over here regards pikeing and carping are concerened?

Thanks,

Justin

Re: American Dream...

The formerly quality manufacturers like Shimano are now nothing more than a Vigor with a badge. Made in the same chinese factory but put in a different box.

Shimano used to boast 'anodised' and 'non ferrous' components. Now they sell the 'Graphite' (Plastic) ideal. (For the same price they used to get for quality it has to be said, Well done to the marketing department)

There is no bling left guys. Save your money and just go fishing until your kit siezes
