Re: What changes

less litter on the bank
less/no bite alarms on small ponds in daylight
and when you go to a fishery you get licence checked automatically, as never been asked at one( lots on canal though)

Re: What changes

Funny you should point that out Nick, I was walking along the Basingstoke canal last summer just having a look when i noticed two lads fishing. They were only about 11-13 and were polite enough but they were both stood around a landing net.

On closer inspection one of them had caught a Bream, not very big about 2lb at a guess but for a start they had put it down on the gravel covered towpath. When i asked them what was up they replied by saying they had no idea how to unhook the fish so i offered to show them how.

I asked them if they had a disgorger or forceps but the reply was no!!. I was very dissapointed, i pointed out that they should have put the fish down in the net on the grass or better still a wet landing mat and showed them how to unhook the fish, then advised them to go to the local tackle shop and buy a disgorger as soon as they good and get the guys in the shop to show them how to use it.

I find this an increasing problem these days, young people want to start fishing which is great, but they just go straight to the banks with no skill, no knowledge and no vital equipment.
