Robster is on a distinguished road
Ultra / light spinning rod recomendation

Hello all,

It's my lad's eighth birthday in a couple of weeks, and I want to buy him a light spinning rod for spinning for Rainbow Trout amongst other species.

He's a fantastic caster, and has had good success already this year on a knackered old rod that I had when I was a kid, but he pulled a 5lb fish out last week and the rod was well beyond its' limit.

He'll be casting No. 1 and No. 2 Mepps - so the rod needs to be either light or Ultralight.

Budget is about £40 - I've seen a Fladden Maximmus 4 piece for £39, which seems OK (reduced from £69) but I can't find any reviews.

Fly fishing is my game, but the fly fishing shop I use only stock pretty serious spinning tackle from the likes of Partridge and Greys - about the £200 - £300 mark - he's and eight year old...he can dream.

Looking forward to your replies....it's great having the lad catching fish next to me when I'm fishing...waited eight years for this!!!

Cheers

Rob
