Re: Knowledge Required

Banana Steve has a really good site showing some rigs and techniques for coarse fishing. For the life of me i can not remember it now, had it as a link on my old PC, but not on this one.

Re: Knowledge Required

Cheers guys, all helpful information, it's a bit of a long story but my dad was a very good fisherman( 5th in the Wye Nationals years ago), and up until recently owned a tackle shop, but we don't get on so fishing for me has come about in spite of him rather than with his help, so i have always felt a bit awkward fishing but enjoy it nevertheless.
I am perhaps a bit weird cuz i have always felt using bite alarms was cheating and even using a pole as well at times, am i really weird or just disillusioned?

Re: Knowledge Required

RB, only you can answer your own questions in your last post mate. From what I see, comp fishermen are pretty much like racing drivers. No time for their own family, or anything else that is really important. You know, and resent that.

YOU know that fishing is supposed to be an enjoyable passtime, and you yourself treat it as such. Try a fishing trip with your Dad. I bet it will be a disaster because he will probably have his competition head on. At the point of breakdown, produce a bacon butty, a can of beer, and a spinning rod

In my opinion a bite alarm just makes it eaiser and in some ways exciting because when you hear that alarm go mental then you know you got a run and your heart starts racing...well mine does. Equally thou I did use to enjoy sitting on the bank in the hot sun and watching the tip of my rod for movement, wondering if i got a bite or not. Its all down to how you want to fish.

I agree with what mark says in the fact that most comp fishermen are like racing drivers, its not all about (or shouldn't be all about) who gets the most fish, the biggest or even who got the best kit, its about taking part in the sport and enjoying it.

I never spoke to my dad for about 3 years and it really made things s**t, until last year when I asked him if he wanted to go fishing......now we go all the time we can and have a proper laugh. Sometimes you got to put your differences aside and come together coz you only get one dad.

Sorry to rant on a bit
