Re: There could be trouble ahead i'm not a member of any angling clubs so that side of things don't affect me, but am sure it will affect many others with clubs having to increase their membership fees to cover the extra costs & also possibly putting up the prices for day ticket fisheries. the 3 local lakes i normally fish are run by the council (there are another 2 or 3 they run you can fish on too) and with speaking to the baliff last autumn, he said they were going to partially drain the lakes, increase the height of the dam walls & repair, replace or build platforms for anglers, just hope it doesn't mean the prices of the day tickets are going up to help cover the cost. however, if all the roumers are true about 1 of the lakes, then the risk of flooding is the least of their worries ... the canadians were stationed at the manor house (long since gone) of tilgate park & when they were leaving after the war, rather than take everything back, they drove trucks, jeeps, cars etc + pistols, rifles, machine guns, light artillary & most concerning of all ... munitions including bullets, grenades & shells, so 1 wrong step could make the lake much bigger & deeper & wipe out some of the housing estate that surrounds tilgate park __________________ www.mobilespanner1.co.uk

Re: There could be trouble ahead The proposal is to extend regulations of dammed water bodies to include those of 10,000 cubic metres , and possible down to 5,000 cubic metres in the future. That means that if you dam a stream, and the result is an impoundment of (say) 100 m long, by 25 m wide and a couple of metres deep, then you have reached the trigger point. That isn't a very big water! I'm all for dams being safe (I would never buy a house downstream of one!), but I forsee heavy layers of expensive bureaucracy/regulations ahead. __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond

Re: There could be trouble ahead how about instead of putting all the responsibilty on the owners of waters, rivers etc, how about a blanket ban of developing on known flood plains? or even where there is an established water body, the developer should pay to protect their investment, rather than the owner/guardian of the water & include suitable flood drains/walls etc capable of diverting back a set % of the volume of water ... or is that too simple an idea? __________________ www.mobilespanner1.co.uk
