Re: Eels?

I used to make my pocket money from catching live eels on the river Bure in Norfolk. We had a bloke come and collect them once a week for jellied eels.

Re: Eels?

Very scarce these days mate. They used to be a real pest, but I believe they have been decimated by a disease imported from the far east. A few good fish came out of our club lake to dead baits last year though.

Re: Eels?

smelly tencher near on 30 years ago. If you really want to catch them. large lob on a 10 hook surrounded with a upv bag of chopped worm. If they are in your water. this is a magnet for them. bootlace's wwill be a pain but just fish through the little buggers.

Re: Eels?

Its a parasite that had affected the eels it targets the swimbladder. Makes it harder for them to migrate to the spawning grounds.

Re: Eels?

we always found summer was the best time for eels as they are more active. I have caught them in the r medway in chatham when you could get on to the pier.

Re: Eels?

i used to fish for them, when i lived in hampshire.mainly on the river itchen, the local chinese take away used to purchase them of us.as i remember they were a night mare to unhook 9 out of 10 times they would have swallowed the hook right down.we mainly caught them on lob worm.but i have had a few on deadbait i.e half a roach was normally the bait we would use. these would normally sort out the bigger sized eels.
