Bures, Suffolk

I have a relative (sister in law) who lives at Bures, Suffolk, and will probably go visiting them sometime over the summer, as the missus wants to visit, so I thought I would use it as an excuse to try fishing in the area. The relatives are non anglers, so I wondered if anyone from that area had any info on local day ticket waters etc, mainly for carp, tench, or even pike. I have had a look at the map and see the river Stour actually runs though Bures itself, but as I am not an experienced river angler any advice would be appreciated. I will google the area some more, to see what I can find out, particularly regarding the Stour, but thought I would post on here in case a local angler can offer advice.
Thanks

Re: Bures, Suffolk

The Stour is a good river, it has all the normal spieces including Carp, Pike, Zander and good Bream

I have not actually fished it before but have walked the banks and chatted to other anglers several years ago

I believe LAA have the rights to some/most of the river, look on their web site regarding day tickets, I am sure they have the rights to Bures lake as well

There are loads of day ticket carp pools in and around Colchester which is only a 10 min drive away

If you are after specimen Carp I can put you in touch with one of my work mates who has had them to over 40lbs

Have a look on the LAA web site, if it is not too clear or you need more info contact me and I will get some better details for you

Darrell

Re: Bures, Suffolk

Hi Darrell.
I had a look at the LAA site, and see that BURES LAKE, BURES MILL POOL, MILL MEADOW, and MAIN MEADOW are listed which are probably the closest to where I will be staying. Directions on the LAA site arefine, and little bit of info about fishing them. I will probably contact Sudbury tackle shop, as that appears the nearest and they will no doubt have some info too.
Thanks
