Pike fishing (no hooks)

I'm going pike fishing over the Christmas holiday with some pike plugs I have removed the trebles from. I have bound the plugs with fine garden string to form loops. see photos,

The string is glued along the top of the plug with Areldite so the loops can flow with the plug. The idea is the loops will hook onto the pikes teeth as they are curved back wards. This idea is in its Early stages and could be developed more with different materials, Anyone with better ideas for the plugs apreciated.Yes I will lose more fish but there will be no more difficult unhooking, deep hooked fish, no trebles snagged up in the landing net, if you get snapped the pike will easily shake off the plug unlike a plug with trebles that can condemn the fish to a slow death. Going to fish the Hobhole drain nr Boston and will post how I get on. Tight lines, Rob.

Re: Pike fishing (no hooks)

Pike Teeth are not teeth like ours, more like serrated gums!!

Re: Pike fishing (no hooks)

they do have large teeth towards the front and they are very fragile they do damage easily and without these large teeth not so effective at catching their prey. The smaller teeth you are talking about are for passing their prey further down and holding it. The initial strike is with the big front teeth.
Generally fishing with lures the fish is hooked towards the front as its a moving target and they are hooked straight away. If you are worried about trebbles try using barbless single hooks.

Re: Pike fishing (no hooks)

for a preditor Pikes teeth are incredibly delicate!!
and splinter or pull out if handled wrongly ,roughly or accidently when removeing hooks in usual manner, think the string ides could be very harmfull myself
