reel basics

I got a rod and reel, the reel is a Quantum Optix 20. I havent fished in 30 years.
Its spooled but I cant even figure out how to rig the line thru the reel..Does the line go Over the bar ?? and what are all those holes on the stainless drum that say line capacity and a bunch of numbers..??Is it supposed to go thru one of those??
Should the on/off switch be right or left??What is that little plastic grey triangle thing for..??
Do you swing the bar down if you want to increase drag..?? The instructions &^%%.ed
I cant believe they didnt put pics in there...

Re: reel basics

all the videos seem to focus on loading the reel. Mine is on ,but its somewhat twisted now...
I am trying to figure out how to run the line Down the pole....
Does the line go over the bale or under..?? Why does my line twist up Behind the drum..??
I need exact pics or something...I need a fishing supply store guy here...

Re: reel basics

The line goes under the bale arm
open the arm ..lift up to run the line through the eyes .

Main reason for going under the spool (DRUM ) too much line on spool so it curls off and goes under , or line too slack .

When casting ,lift bail arm up It clicks into place , cast out ,then close bale arm

Re: reel basics

Quick tip for those that thread all the line through the rod THEN notice that the bale arm was closed. Just take the spool off, open the arm and put it back on. My daughter is forever doing this and I have to admit that in my rush to get her tackled up it's not till I have added hook , float and shot before I have noticed. My fault, she's only nine (or seven depending which one of the two does it).
