Rod suggestions

Hi I'm looking to buy a good quality rod (and reel if they are sold separately) for my boyfriend who likes to fish in small streams and the occasional lake. I'm thinking about £50-£60 but any suggestions would be appreciated.
If you could post a link to the webpage showing the model, I would be very grateful as I really don't know what I'm looking for.
Also if you have any other fishing related gift ideas that would be great!!

Thank you!! :)

Re: Rod suggestions

What type of fish does he enjoy catching , is it a carp rod/reel combo , or a float rod/reel combo or a quiver tip /reel combo

Re: Rod suggestions

He tends to catch perch, roach and brown trout. He uses a float but I could get him a quiver tip if that is more appropriate..
I really have no idea what is a nice rod and he would appreciate anything. Any suggestions as to what sort of rod you like using would be great! Thank you!

Re: Rod suggestions

It's great that you are going to so much effort to buy the right kit for your fella. Well done ;0)

Other gift ideas would be a voucher for a fishing venue where he can use his new kit. Like I've said before, vouchers are a double pressie. Once when he gets it, and again when he uses it

Re: Rod suggestions

i fish for perch and roach and use a john wilson masterline match rod 12 foot its a quality bit of kit and can be found on the net for around 30 quid ,paired up with a masterline reel which retail for 17.99 and matches the rod perfectly. it performs well, spooled up with 8lb line or 10lb line if he wants to carp fish it will handle a bit of ruff and tumble,or as you said a quiver tip is a very good choice i use the quiver for most of my fishing (catching silvers with a maggot feeder set up or with a method feeder for carp, tench and bream )mostly on stillwaters, again mine is a john wilson ledger rod 9 foot long and i pared up with a good carp reel on 10lb line works like magic and retails from 20 - 25 quid cheap as chips but lovely to use .type masterline rods into your search engine and it will bring up all of the rods in this range and prices happy shopping and tight lines to your fella
