| Re: first fish and how? Mackeral, on a hand line off North Pier, Blackpool. Aged 10 After that aged 14 it was a monster carp (22lbs in 1978) that everyone said existed but no-one had seen for a couple of years. Shortly following that the string of ponds near where I lived was filled in and turned into a housing estate |

| Re: first fish and how? First fish hooked was a small rock thing in spain on a bit of line and a hook I found but I don't class this is my first rod caught fish as not only was it only a scrap of line, I also managed to kill the thing. First real rod caught fish was at Roath Park Lake in Cardiff. I was fishing on the old swimming pool near the light house and the guy next to me had been catching consistently all day and I (as usual) was blanking. I watched him for a while and when he left, dived stright in his swim (using the logic that there must be fish there because he caught them). Single grain of hemp and the float slid under. I struck so hard the fish flew out of the water and dropped off the hook at my feet. Probably 3 oz at most, roach. Chuffed I put it back then went to rebait my hook and it's only then that I saw that it hadn't come unhooked, the lower lip was still on the hook. I don't think I'll ever forget that poor little roach and I'm glad to say my fish handling skills have imporved somewhat since. Odd that I can remember the fish but not how old I was, probably 11 or 12. By then I was anlready a life long angler though, loved it, still do. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |
