polyballs for pike

just got some pollyballs for popup deadbaiting , how do you attach them and do you know any goods rigs

i attach them by nicking it on one of the trebles,
that will then pop the bait up with the leger anchoring it,
if i want to pop it up just an inch or two i pinch an SSG on to the trace and slice small slithers off the poly ball until it can be popped up with the SSG as the anchor
