Lubricating New Pole Elastic

hi i was just looking for a bit of advice really.

ive only just taken up pole fishing and went to get a pole today from my local tackle shop.

they set it up for me putting elastic in etc for me ready to go but he said that you need to lube up the elastic to make it last longer and glide smoother. but rather then selling me a pot of lube for about 3 quid said just use a bit of hair conditioner and water.

now i'm home i cant remember what he said about applying it.

do i

A, pull out the elastic and keep rubbing it on then letting elastic back in a number of times

B, just pure it inside the pole coating pretty much all the inside etc

thanks in advance for any help or advice

Re: Lubricating New Pole Elastic

Hi
i would go for B, it is what you would do if you purchased the lub from the tackle shop,

the conditioner needs to be well watered down

good luck with the pole fishing, it will seam a bit akward at first but it will present the bait better

Darrell

Re: Lubricating New Pole Elastic

Sounds about right to me. If it's a new pole/elastic it shouldn't really need lubed straight away. Most elastics come pre-lubed and it's only after this has wore off that you'll need to re-do it. Personally I'd stretch the elastic out of the tip and apply it that way. Works for me. Another way, if you're fishing and find the elastic is hanging from the end of your pole is to stretch it under the water and let it slide back inside the pole tip.
