Re: carp puddles Hi I hate Carp puddles, I love Carp and enjoy fishing for them but most of these pools the Carp have been hauled in by match men, inexperienced anglers and angler trying to keep them out of the snags which all result in fish with disfigured mouths etc... I do a lot of Zander fishing at the moment, while i have a couple of rods out for the Zander I normally, especially in the warmer months, put a rod out for the Bream, Tench and Carp and do catch some stunning fish, most have never seen a hook before I caught a 4lb Tench the other night, not a big Tench, but it was in good nick and looked lovely I do enjoy Chub and Roach fishing in small streams and waters that are not hammered Don't get me wrong by my comments regarding match men etc... i spent years match fishing in Northern Ireland when my Old man was in the forces and enjoyed it, it is just not my cup of tea now Darrell

Re: carp puddles I think that some of the 'early' carp puddles must have develo0ped a degree of natralisation by now. However they must act as an easy introduction to angling. If beginners get a good start to the sport, then they are likely to continue and then progress. One thing, which is more a comment about us as a species, we like things to be easy, such as food, be it the cheapness of super market or fast food. The reason carp puddles are successful is that the stocks are high and anyone can catch. People can drive almost to the swims, there are often on site facilities. Which do make for an easier session, but I feel less rewarding. I do like tradtional venues, and catching silver fish, although when you only catch tiny roach, it can get very frustating. One thing that carp puddles can do, which I do like is produce some big silver fish and also some nice perch. As these fish feed up on pellets or the perch get fat on small silvers, they are also an often un fished for species. As boilies are not really a good silver fish bait, unless used in small, 10 mil or less sizes. Thus the silvers can get to a whopping size. Personally if I had the oppertunity to build some lakes, I would have a silverfish lake, definatly, but add some chub and perch to keep the tiddlers down. Sorry got carried away.

Re: carp puddles four or five years ago i fished a place near Colchester, I was the last one to leave as it go dark, as i left the owner pulled up, opened the back of his car and hauled in loads of old bread from the local bakery There where so many Carp in the pool he had to feed them additional food to what the anglers where putting in Basically the Carp would have had your bait if you had 100lb line on as they where starving, no skill required I never fished the place again

Re: carp puddles i agree with you but angling seems to allways rvolve around the match anglers ----wot about other anglers an like isaid before carp catch themselves--------no glory in that

Re: carp puddles My first double was from the River Medway in Kent, at Wateringbury. It came after 4 trips, I did another 4-5 night sessions and only caught tench and bream.
