Quick Questionnaire!

I am a student studying design and technology at Manchester Metropolitan University. For my final year major project I have chosen fishing as my target area and I have been advised that a questionnaire would be of use to me.

Basically I have been asked to find a problem or problem areas of my chosen topic and then use my research to come up with a solution to the problem.
A quick example of this could be problems with litter. My solution would be to possibly design and make something that perhaps anglers could carry with them which disposes of the litter.

I am still at the early stages of this project and I haven’t specifically chosen a problem area yet but I do have a few in mind. With your help I am hoping to narrow down some of the choices and just get a few thoughts from other people.

I would appreciate if you could fill in the questionnaire below to help me with my research. (Just copy and paste it to the reply) They can be as simple as one word answers or as detailed as you like.

Are you male or female?

How old are you?

How often do you go fishing?

What type of fishing do you do? (Coarse, sea, match etc) More than one can be put down.

Who do you go fishing with? (On your own, with a friend or family member etc)

Have you fished anywhere outside of the UK? If so, where did you go?

How much physical activity does your participation in angling involve? (Do you have a long walk to where you fish? Or is your tackle too heavy to walk far? Or are on you on the move constantly?)

For what reasons do you go fishing? This can be a very simple answer or you can go into detail.

Are you a member of a fishing club or society? And do you play any specific role in this club? (Chairman, secretary etc)

Are there any problems that you have whilst fishing? These could be things such as safety whilst fishing, back problems, litter, safety for the fish, disabled anglers etc. A bit of detail here would be appreciated but not necessary.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Quick Questionnaire!

PM sent if it helps

your idea on litter is almost an imposibility
Litters a problem everywhere( not just angling) but angling litter does annoy me, ( especially feather trace and bait wrappers in the summer) if people have the ability to transport what ends up as rubbish to their mark/swim, then they should have the ability to move it too a bin

good luck with course

Holiday makers /day tripers coming to the coast line that i live on to fish and leaving all their crap.
Some local people are guilty of this too.
People who fish for large fish , carp, pike , barbel etc and use a net too small and have no mat , people that cast their rods out and then go for a chat to their mates up the bank .

Re: Quick Questionnaire!

Are you male or female?

Male, except Friday night after 8 when they "call me talloola".
How old are you?
43 except Friday noght after 8 when I'll slug you for asking a laydy.i
How often do you go fishing?
Not often enough, average a trip a week to ten days.

What type of fishing do you do? (Coarse, sea, match etc) More than one can be put down.

If it is fish shaped and not a mammal. Mostly coarse , sea when I am close enough.

Who do you go fishing with? (On your own, with a friend or family member etc)
on my own or with my daughters. Occasionally with a friend. I usually like to go alone though as part of the appeal is having time to think.

Have you fished anywhere outside of the UK? If so, where did you go?

Majorca. South coast of the isle of wight (it was a long cast).

How much physical activity does your participation in angling involve? (Do you have a long walk to where you fish? Or is your tackle too heavy to walk far? Or are on you on the move constantly?)
Varies a lot depending on what I am trying to achieve. Never enough to be classed as a work out though.

For what reasons do you go fishing? This can be a very simple answer or you can go into detail.
If I knew I'd bottle it , sell it for billions and fish every day. I don't honestly know it just feels right.

Are you a member of a fishing club or society? And do you play any specific role in this club? (Chairman, secretary etc)
Yes angling trust and Birmingham anglers. I have been a bailiff and comittee member in the past but not at the moment (and not for the BAA).

Are there any problems that you have whilst fishing? These could be things such as safety whilst fishing, back problems, litter, safety for the fish, disabled anglers etc. A bit of detail here would be appreciated but not necessary.

You will make a fortune if you can invent a cheap effective way of getting pole or rod sections that have jammed solid apart. This is a common problem.

As for litter some way of incinerating the bloody idiots that leave it would be good.

I hope that's of some help. All the best.
