Pole Fishing

Hi everyone i wondered if you can help me, i am an experienced angler but have never fished a pole. Having just recently bought a Middy White Knuckle which i have not used yet and doing some research i was wondering what a Top 2 Kit is???? and is it better to make your own pole float set ups or buy them??....thanks Jason

Re: Pole Fishing

Top 2 Kit means the top two sections of the pole, and as for rigs, i have always made my own, its a lot cheaper than buying pre-made rigs, but for ease the pre-made rigs have thier benifits.

Re: Pole Fishing

The top two kit is indeed the top two sections of your pole. You will usually have a few of these so that you can set up a few different rigs i.e one for the margins, one for the bottom at 10 meters. You may also have a match top kit which is for use with light lines. It is all about speed really by setting up the different top kits with different rigs you can pick and choose through your session with minimum fuss. be sure to purchase one of the pole rests that will hold your spare kits while you fish as this will protect them from being accidently damaged or trod on.

As for your float rigs it may be a good idea to buy a few ready mades to start with. Then when you are comfortable with how to use the pole and have a feel for what rigs work you could set up your own. it is definately cheaper that way.

Re: Pole Fishing

Be careful of the cheap pole float rigs.
I bought some Milanos from ebay and lost a fish due to the hook snapping in two. It was tied to 2lb line and the metal hook broke before the line!!
After that, I changed all the hooks and they did me well for a while.

Re: Pole Fishing

There are a few good books and dvd's on pole fishing, but as with most aspects of angling nothing beats practise. It might be wise to watch a fw match anglers, if possible without disturbing them. They are worth watching, if onl;y to study the disapline.
