| Re: maggots and how to prepare hi guys new to the forum i work in a tackle shop and when the maggots come in to us we riddle the saw dust of then move the riddle over to an empty tray and let the maggots wriggle through leaving any dead maggot or rubbish like the odd feather etc in the riddle this is what is classed as cleaning most shops would normally do this as soon as the maggots come in and then get them in a fridge as soon as possible to keep the bait at its freshest. When you go in to buy your maggots we usually ask if you would like maize or sawdust on them as some anglers prefer maize and some saw dust everyone has they're own reasons one chap thinks the saw dust makes them stink by the time he gets to the water so prefers maize. Maize actually softens the skins on the maggots which can cause in some situations fish to suck them rather than aggresively feeding again personal preferance some anglers see this as a bonus others don't. hope that helps a bit thats my first post out of the way! |
