| Is it illegal to germinate hemp seeds? Just wondering. Got my first kilo bag of hemp today and was wondering what would happen if I planted a few as an experiment. Would they germinate/grow , is it actual cannabis or a derivative of it ? The seeds I have are un-prepared.     |

| Re: Is it illegal to germinate hemp seeds? hemp seed Fruits of Cannabis sativa, eaten toasted in China, as a condiment in Japan; the oil is added to salad dressings and dips, but is not suitable for cooking. The seed contains only negligible amounts of narcotic cannabinoids think you will be safe mate , i dont think you wil be getting a knock at the door.. have a read here mate http://www.hemcore.co.uk/growing.htm |

| Re: Is it illegal to germinate hemp seeds? Most hemp sold for bird food, fishing has been irradiated, to render it sterile. I understand it is illeagal to properagte, a liscence is needed to grow the strains used for rope. The narcotic strains and the non narcotic strains I think could only be distinguished by a lab test. I just would'nt bother, tongues could wag etc. Ironically, back in the days of a sail powered maritime empire, every farm, over a certain acreage, not sure what was required to grow hemp for rope. |

| Re: Is it illegal to germinate hemp seeds? yes it is illegal as a friend of mine who did the same thing found out when his car was nicked and the police came to his house for a statement they said you can grow it with a licence but its hard to distiguish against an actual cannabis plant so took the plant and gave him a warning |

| Re: Is it illegal to germinate hemp seeds? Grew a bit at the start of the summer, but it was sterile and had low values of the stuff that causes the effect of unsterilised hemp. Not worth the hastle, when it grows it looks like the illegal stuff, but does not contain the "active" ingredients in usable quantities, but you will still get arrested and charged because the average plod will not know the difference, your defence council will need a chemist to defend you, and the judge will still want to know why you grew it if it was not with intent, take my advise, feed the fishes. |
