filling line onto a reel

I have just followed the tutorial below and filled my reel and it looks a mess. Its not straight and in some places the line looks loose with loops. Is there a better way that you fill your reels. Also when it wasplaced on the floor as in the link it just kept flicking into the air and i had to get the wife to hold the line on a pen on its side so it spun freely. Very confused

Re: filling line onto a reel

seems as if you have it too slack ,Or you have put a million twists in it . The method in the link is a standard method .

Try putting your line in a bucket of water thread it on to your spool useing the bottom section of you rod , hold a towel on the rod and wind the line through it.
I use warm water and put the spool in for a soak for 30 mins before spooling up.

What make of line is it .

Re: filling line onto a reel

I usually put the line through the pages of a large phone directory so that as I wind it onto the reels spool it is under a slight tension. I put the line-spool on its side under the table so that it comes off the line-spool in the same direction as it is being wound onto the reel-spool to help combat line twist.

Sometimes I just get the wife to hold the line-spool under a little tension as I wind it onto the reel but she always moans when the spool spinning starts to burn her fingers. (Women!!)

Re: filling line onto a reel

Cheers guys, got my son to put some tension on the line while i re-filled the spare spool and its worked a treat. I think there was not enough tension before, but its all a learning curve.
