I wonder if anyone else has been here- i was there last week and the fishing is good but the accommodation is poor dirty and bathroom smelled of wee- if you go for the fishing take your own tent.

Re: holiday- South Coombe Water Devon

Rob, can only say what I found , I have photos of the badly stained carpet in the bathroom- why would want to put carpet in a bathroom? the smell in there was over powering. perhaps it is just the chalet we we in.

the fishing was good but the accommodation needs to be clean. I don't expect or want gold taps and butlers but clean is a good start. If the bathroom was in a hotel you would expect to be moved or you would want some of your money back.

My view is the owners are good at the fishing and grounds side of things but are not fully up to running the accommodation.

I would't go again even though the fishing is good.

Well my mate stayed in a dormouse & he looked round one other chalet when he was there & said that both were immaculate, may it was just the one you were staying in Kevin?

Re: holiday- South Coombe Water Devon

Kevin i dont know were you are coming from. South combe waters is the cleanest and the most pleasent place my family have stayed although we have not stayed in all the log cabins i have been inside them after meeting some lovely people when staying down there. As for rex and anne you will not find nicer couple there both genuine honest people. NOW for the most important subject the log cabins are ALWAYS super clean and tidy on arrival with plenty of clean bedding if you wish to change them and everything you would possibly need. HOME from HOME Also this year was our 3rd year down there staying for two weeks at a time and this year we were down there just TWO WEEKS after your self. We also booked to go back next year for two weeks. All the other guest in the three log cabins also booked for next year. So that speaks for its self. All i can say kevin is take better aim when using the toilet

Re: holiday- South Coombe Water Devon

Kevin,

I'm the son of the owners and have been through all 11 years of them setting up South Combe Waters.

They have (and continue to) put a lot of heart and effort into everything involved with South Combe Waters, including the accommodation and I'm sure they would be massively disappointed if they felt one of their customers had been subjected to what you're describing.

The chalets are vigorously cleaned by cleaners every weekend I’m sure like most outsourced services, mistakes can be made in which case you as the customer would have been better off informing Rex and Anne immediately so they could correct the problem.

From what I understood you never mentioned a problem while you were there (no matter how vocal you seem to be now), instead you chose to hand the keys back at the end of the holiday stating you “Didn’t like fishing in the rain”.
And to take things one step further you have now decided to complain via this website ..... still without letting Anne and Rex know about your complaint.

Regards,

Adam Plumridge

Re: holiday- South Coombe Water Devon

Kevin

I am quite shocked that you have posted a note on this website about the conditions of the lodges at southcombe waters.

I have visited southcombe waters 2 or 3 times a year for the last 6 years. I have stayed in all of the lodges and have found them all to be of the highest standards for both comfort and cleanliness.

The hospitality that Anne and Rex have provided was of the highest standard and they are both approachable. If the standard of the lodges was not to your requirement you really should have said something while you were on site and then maybe something would have been done for you. As you seemed to have failed to do this then you only have yourself to blame that your experiance was spoilt.

I find southcombe waters a relaxing and tranquil place to relax and unwind. I would highly recommend southcombe waters to anybody who likes to fish and i will continue to go there for many years to come.

Re: holiday- South Coombe Water Devon

I am shocked to hear of your experience of Southcombe Waters. I have been there on several occations and its been excellent every time. Ann and Rex are very approachable and friendly. You should have told them about your complaint at the time and im sure they would have done everything in their power to resolve the issue.

I think Southcombe Waters is a great place to stay and will definately be going back. Its the best place i have ever holidayed in this country and the fishing is brilliant!

Surely if you have an issue with your accommodation you tell the person in charge so they can sort it out, not wait until you have left and then moan!
