what line do i use? feeder and float I have just upgraded my fishing gear with a couple of new rods from the avanti range. The first one is the 10ft margin power carp rod, which will be my jack of all trades rod, but mainly float. The 2nd rod is a heavy feeder. I'm not sure what line to be using with the rods. Thinking maybe 8 or 10lb with the feeder and 6lb with the power carp. Will be trying bubble floats with dog biscuits, and feeders range from maggot to method. Would this be o.k? does putting a hook link in just stop you loosing your main line if you snap? and what size does that generally need to be? Not been into fishing long, been to swanton morley numerous times and had some good days but its mostly been little roach and perch with maggot. Not really bothered what i catch, tench, carp, bream, bigger roach or perch.work long hours as a support worker and just like the time to myself to unwind and learn new skills. hope you can help. many thanks.

Re: what line do i use? feeder and float It is good to see someone new to the sport asking questions . The hooklength does indeed stop you snapping off and leaving miles of line in the water (or even worse the fishes mouth). I tend to keep all the tackle likely to tether a fish on the stronger reel line and keep the lower BS hooklength as clear of gear as I can (odd very small shot). Not only does this prevent you loosing the most expensive bit of the kit (usually the float) but also prevents the tethering problem. Ask yourself "how will this fish survive if the line broke". I use them rubber float stops now, they hold the float in place put allow the line to pull free if even the reel line breaks. Keep asking questions. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: what line do i use? feeder and float Depending on what reel your useing id go for 6lb or 8lb for float and 8lb+ for feeder depending on the size of fish likely to be cought.

Re: what line do i use? feeder and float thank you for the taking the time to reply. that has been very helpful. Unfortunately i dont have another day off for nearly 2 weeks so to say i'm gutted is an understatement. been practicing my casting with a line clip during my lunch. Lol.

Re: what line do i use? feeder and float I wouldnt use a line clip with the chance of catching carp or tench as 95% they will take line if ur cliped up then you wont be able to give line and end up being snaped up.

Re: what line do i use? feeder and float not being the most accurate at casting whats the best way to be setting up for consistant distance. What sort of area am i looking at for baiting up? is it that crucial to be exact every time. God i do go on, sorry.

Accurate casting and accurate feeding is fairly important otherwise you will be spreadng your feed all over the place and likewise the fish will be thinly spread all over the place. however there is nothing wrong with continually feeding two different spots in your swim that way if you spook fish in one spot you still have fish feeding in the other. Dont feed too much at once (after the initial feed) and a little and often approach is usually the better option unless the fish are going mad. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
