New To Fishing hey there im new to fishing, only been twice properly, i started with Bream, Tench, Roach then moved onto half-2 LB carp and next time going a little bigger using my dads rod and reel but these are quiet old he says and i need to buy some gear, but being new to the sport im stuck on what is good enough and what isnt, of course i dont need nothing expensive or flash etc but need something that isnt going to Break if i hook a 4-5LB carp for example, so whats a decent enough Rod and Reel for lets say £50? any extra info would greatly be appreciated.. Thanx

Re: New To Fishing Firstly what type of fishing do you want to do, by the sounds off it just general fishing. I would look at geting a float rod, something in the £30.00 range, Shakespeare, leeda, Map all do good priced rods at around £30.00 as for reels something like an okuma, mitchell, abu they all do reels for around £20.00 a good site to look at is Bennetts of Sheffiled this will give you a basic idea. Hope this helps Regards, Steve __________________ Born to fish made to work

Re: New To Fishing i started on a ledger rod with two and a half pound test curve made by john wilson works brilliantly and i also use said rod for coarse fishing as well bought second hand for twenty quid but looks new i use a maxima reel with 10lb line and use flatbed feeders with ground bait and boilies seems to be a good method for me as i cuaght a 15lb carp on my very first session(begginers luck lol) rod held up well and was very responsive so really impressed with it if you need more info on rigs and bait and stuff send us a message tight lines.

Re: New To Fishing Hiya, there is not alot of difference between the two, but I would personally go for the ABU, 104RD it looks like a good all rounder. I just trust ABU more than Mitchell, in the old days Pre 1990 Mitchells were one of the best reels on the market but for the last few years they have gone down hill. Abu have always been a good reel. hope this helps. __________________ Born to fish made to work

Re: New To Fishing I started off with a nice pole rod. They are easy to use and pretty cheap too. I started fishing roach. Then moved my way up to perch. After that, i fished little barbel in a stream/river which is nearby. Just recently i fished a 4 pound carp and im proud of myself :) I turned from a young boy who knew nothing about fishing to a young boy who is willing to learn and has caught a big fish :)
