Reels Hi just started fishing and was looking for some info on when you get a new rod & reel I seen somewhere that alot of people take there line off & put new line back on the spool. What do you think about this ?

Re: Reels dont know why maybe to put lighter or heavier line on depends what or where you are fishing for

Re: Reels I think it was because it may be sitting on the shelf for a while & gets weak and something to do with not being tight to the spool which can cause tangles. But I don't know much about reels or line so I may have picked it up wrong. Thanks

Re: Reels this is because as you said if its been sitting on the shelf for ages it can become slack and loose tension so new line will need to be put on this eradicates loosing fish ,damaging fish if the line snaps also the other reason is some reels are lined with cheap and nasty line so replacing it with a better brand is a no brainer really.

Re: Reels Good quality line is essential, why manufacurers supply reels with crap line is beyond me, what I would do, is issue a voucher for line, a quality make, mast companies are linked into onanother someway, ie esp and drennan are one and the same, ( I think).

Re: Reels I think the main reason that people change the line on new reels that have been loaded is confidence, i know i would change line and put a something on i trust. __________________ Born to fish made to work

Re: Reels I always change the line because they normaly come under spoold and dont say the line rateing or are the wrong rateing for what i want. I think the age of how long the lines is impossable to know same as if you buy a spool of line so i wouldnt change it just for that reason.
