Hey peeps i am new to this forum and really need help. The problem is float fishing i am struggling to get the depth right i am plummeting it but the problem is when i do think i got the depth by just seeing the hi vis part of the float i reel in and remove the bell weight and bait up but when i cast out to the same position the float rises instead it doesnt sit like it did when i have the plummet on, also i am new to fishing but i go everyday and practice tonight i had a big problem my rig consited of a straight waggler 3AAA+ i had the float stopped with 1 no.4 shot on each side then 2 AAA shots underneth the float for casting distance and to weigh it down then about 18 inchs from the hook i had 3 no.6 shots bulked the float sat fine but i dont know if i was at the bottom i did plummet it and it sat like it did when i had the plummet on but when i ajusted to be off the bottom it sat the same hi vis was only visable but then when i was set too deep there was no change it never lay'd flat or came up out the water it jus sat the same. So what is it i am doing wrong and the shot capacitys of a float how much shot should i load the line with ? I did notice that some other anglers were using high capacity floats but only having very small shot llike 9 no.6 shot under the float and 3 no.6 shot about 15 inchs from the hook and they are able to cast quite far which i cant do without alot if shot. I do hate having alot of shot on the line so what should i do and how can i do it so i know that my hook is just on the bottom . Also today i used good groundbait for tench, roach and bream mixed with attractor fluid for all corse fish and another attractor fluid for roach, bream, skimmers, tench, with that i had a really good swim going but not one bite jus knocks on the line. What am i doing wrong please help i really love fishing but i dont wanna be sat there for 2 hours trying to plum the depth like i did the other day very fustrating Thanks in advance ![]()

Re: Help really struggling What i do is put all the weights close to the float and test it to make sure it sits right e.g not over/undershot once thats right i plumb the deph. If u was not geting bites and fishing on the bottom may be the fish where close to the serface. Try fishing on the bottom and try 1/3rd depth. Also maybe the bait was wrong or hook or line to big.

Thanks, can u give me example of how much weight u put on to the capicity of the float (3AAA waggler etc) would u put 3 AAA on it? And i was using size 14 hook and maggot for bait i tried with 1 -3 maggots ![]() |

Re: Help really struggling I would use 2 aaa to lock the float then 4 no.4. If useing maggots you was proberly attracting small silver fish so they would be near the serface. Try fishing a foot deep instead of on the bottom. What pound line are you useing?

Re: Help really struggling When u adjustf it to over deph how much over deph was u? You would need tobe over 18inches to deep to make your float lift up. Under deph it will stay the same.

Re: Help really struggling Try buying a pre-loaded waggler that way all you have is a small amount of drop shot on the line.

Re: Help really struggling i would definatley buy preloaded floats and on the side they will tell you what weight to use i use 4bb floats so two bb either side of the float really tight in so theres no movement up and down the line and a really small shot to sink the bait ,and try just one or two maggots on the hook as this is less overfacing for the fish and looks more natural than a big bunch of maggots and dont forget to feed the swim with a few maggots little and often is the key,

Re: Help really struggling If I am having trouble like you describe, I slide a piece of silicone rubber up the line then push the float into the top of the rubber, now tie the hook on, I now gently pinch on two swan shot(ssg) just above the hook, make sure this sinks the float, keep casting out and moving the float up or down until you can just see the tip of the float, now remove the swan /ssg shot, as you are using a 3AAA+ put 3 AAAs under the float, then one ab shoot 18 inches from the hook, if you are getting a lot of drift, take off two of the AAA shot and put roughly 5 bb 18 inches from the hook this helps to combat drift, of course once you know your depth you can replace your float using the normal method, (dont forget to measure your depth on your rod first) I have found this to be a much better way than using a plumet.
