| Re: Home made baits I do, and they have worked very well for me. I tend to fish them as pastes, as I think the boiling process will damage the flavour. I had some fantastic success at Berkley Lake on a Berry Bait, I made some other pastes and they also worked very well, using a rare type of chilli that i grow as a base flavour. Jolly Piscator and Greenheart can confirm how good some of these baits have been. For my base mix, I use the recipe that is in the carp baits section here, and mix up eggs and flavours. I found some berries made very good additives. I also feel that a grteat deal of shop baits are made to catch anglers, like floats do, and to certain extent, flies as well. A home made bait will often be more subtle and you are also in command of the colour, why not create a natural colour bait, using green food colouring, esp on a water where bright colours might signal danger? |

| Re: Home made baits I've made my own paste before but not from scratch more just used shop bought stuff and adapted it, and kept it simple. I used to buy a groundbait called explosive feeder. Once using it at a place called Cusworth Hall in Doncaster it seemed to attract alot of crucians to the swim. I decided on making a paste with it just using the groundbait and egg for binding. The crucians went mental for it, one of the best days I had there people were actually approaching me asking what I was using. Of course those I told had to meet with accidents on there way home lol. |
