Re: Local lakes (wiltshire ish area)

Berkley is not a very long walk, obviously you've never tackled 'cardiac hill' on the avon, nr claverton.
seriously, its not too bad. Good for the health too.

Re: Local lakes (wiltshire ish area)

Had a phone call on wensday from a mate i use to work with if asking if i wanted to go fishing on thursday at shearwater so agreed. On thursday went to the post office to grab a 2nd licence to fish 3 rods then down to the tackle shop to grab some bait. He turned up at my door at eleven got to the lake at half eleven and set up by twelve.
bought a new carp rod but forgot to get a bait alam so only set up two rods one with a strewbery boilie and other with a crab and mussel boilie. Cast out about 40-50ft at a boey after twenty minutes had a 3lb tench.

At one the bailff came round so got some pellets they use to feed them in the winter. Then had an 8lb carp a 8lb and a 2lb tench. My mate and his cousin started to moan they wasnt catching. My mate was useing a kit from argos after not trying to laugh at his huge hooks i tyed up 2 rigs and set him up better also used one of my crab and mussel boiles on each rod. The kit he got was a carp kit came with rod pod 2 x 2.2/5tc bite alarms and reels with no free spool so had to use the drag on the reel how crap and his landing net was a waist of space would be better suited catching goldfish out ur garden pond. I then set up his cousins rod whilst i was seting it up he had a run whilst he picked up the rod an began to reel in he got tangled so had to pull the line in by hand lucky it was only a 2lb bream. Reset him up and finished seting his cousin up. Went back to my swim and fired out some pellets. Had to pack up at 7pm in the end i had 10 bream to 8lb 3 x 2lb a 3lb and a 6lb tench and Had 11 carp from 7lb to 16 1/2lb found feeding the pellets make a huge diffrence.

How can argos get away with selling kit thats no good for what its sold for.

Re: Local lakes (wiltshire ish area)

Went to longleat yesterday with my brother. Was up at 5am had a shower and breakfast then got my kit and bait ready brother got to me a just befor 6am packed his little saxo and was at the entrence to longleat by 6.20am the barrier was closed the fishing is 7am to 7pm so wanted to get on the lake to get a good swim and set up for 7am. The barrier didnt open till 7am. Parked up and walked to the top lake that holds the big carp. Found a good swim only a few left as alot was there night fishing. The water is gin clear and thick with weed. Had all 3 rods set up and in the water by 7.45am. Managed to find a clear spot in the center of the lake not very big so hard to hit. Had a few bleeps. Over the clear spot could see carp moveing just under the serface so set up my carp rod with a controler fired some dog mixer in then cast in as it hit the water a carp took it. Manage to keep him close to the serface and get him in my net a nice mirror of just over fifteen pounds. Then about 2pm hooked another on floating pellet but lost it in the weed. Managed another fifteen pounder by the end of the day.

Was useing fifteen pound main line and twelve pound thick mono hook link as didnt have any ten pound. One of the lake rules is min of ten pound line saw 3 other people take a few of the top and none of the bottom. Im happy with what i cought and will be back again. Will ask if i can rake my swim of weed next time and get some low daiameter ten and twelve pound mono to use.
