Perch

I like to catch perch, they're a lovely looking fish. My problem is that where ever I catch one, that's all I get, one! Where as with anything else excepting pike you can be pretty sure of landing quite a few of the same species once you're into them. So where am I going wrong? I usually use a cage feeder with groundbait/caster/maggot and worm or maggot on the hook (dendras). My pb perch is 2lb and was caught with double maggot on a waggler, but again was a solitary spikey in a glut of skimmers and carp.

Any help would be much appreciated.

thats surprising , perch more often then not are a shoal fish usually travelling in groups of similar size,until they get really big of course,
are there many perch in the water you are fishing ?
i dont think your tactics are wrong at all,i would try to use lobworm instead of a dendra,the perch love them and red maggot is a favourite as well,
what the more experienced perch anglers do is to groundbait with chopped worm that usually does the trick

I'm not sure on how many fish there are, I'm on commercials mainly so there should be enough about. I'll try some lobs mate, thanks for the advice.

other larger fish could be moving into your swim making them move on.
you could also try a small lure, my pb was 3 lb on a bright orange lure but remeber to use a trace as pike will try aswell.

Yes it's a great way to catch them-on a lure! I'll get my act together for an afternoon session on Thursday and report on how it goes.

It could be that perch are passing through, looking for prey fish, if ther eare lots of small fish in the water your fishing, then looking for them being disturbed might put you onto a shoal of perch.
