Would like to try for bass this weekend Anyone know where might be best around the Exmouth area (willing to travel for the best place) and also the best bait? I have some mackerel frozen that I could use. The only bottom rig I have at the moment is a setup with a float to lift the bait off the floor a little. Thinking of having two ledgering setups running at the same time. Tides are neap at the moment so not much movement so not sure where is best. I want to catch something other than mackerel. PS: Could also probably get some live sandeel from the harbour too. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

| Re: Would like to try for bass this weekend Hi Jason, Regarding the lures - really more funny than natural baits - one specially good lure for bass (and perchs) is the X-80 from Megabass. You have 2 versions: - X-80 Rocket darter, which is sinking, and the salt water version (exactly the same except for the hooks) - X-80 Trick darter, which is suspending In my opinion the sinking version catches more. Here is an "article" I wrote on this lure: http://www.petit-pecheur.net/index.p...eurres-de-luxe Then, the x-rap serie in 08 and 10 cm uses to be really good for bass, too. | Re: Would like to try for bass this weekend I have a sinking rapala, but can never cast it very far due to it being so light. Think it's something to use off a boat perhaps, than the shore? It looks a little like this, but due to weight I doubt it will even cast 20 yards. ![]() I'm thinking more along the lines of using bait and a 6 oz grip weight. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back! |

Re: Would like to try for bass this weekend bait wise my friend peeler and softbackcrab tiped with i small strip of squid. limpet wrapped with bait elastic or just simple rag tipped with limpet or fish strips o the peeler you might pic up wrass, smoothhound and conger limpet- i think wrass will go for that aswell and rag, wrass, pout, flounder, hounds, eels ect. eddy eels are my favorite lure for bass. or go really cheap, a small bit of plastic bag on the hook. i am catching loads of bass under my pier on handlines with plastic bag

Re: Would like to try for bass this weekend oooh, so I could use eddystone eels in the same way that I would use mackerel feathers, but maybe just having two on the rig, not 4? How big an eddystone would you use as I have some black eddystones that are MASSIVE. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Would like to try for bass this weekend i use 6. but dont use the huge ones! the smallest eddys are best for them as they look like the white bait they eat

Re: Would like to try for bass this weekend Would you say that pale ones would be good then? I know they can come in a kind of white/silver. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Would like to try for bass this weekend the white ones are good but the white ones with green or black on top are very good. eddys cost about 75p each so 6 shouldn't be to much
