maggot breeding

because im currently unemployed iv'e decided to breed my own maggots(my mrs is gonna go mental)

iv'e never tried this before but im gonna need loads of casters this season for tench, bream and roach fishing.

i thought what id do is nail a dead rabbit to the side of my shed and place a bin underneath it to collect the maggots.

has anyone done this before?any tips would be good.

thanks

Re: maggot breeding

to be honest, I would go to your tackle shop and ask them for their old bait see if can get it at cut cost price, and turn your own caster. the reason i say this is that you will get maggots from the rabbit but you may not get too many and the smell will be noticed by people. but hey good luck!

Re: maggot breeding

One more thing if you are looking for free bait, speak to a farmer and see if he will take the worms from any manue pile, I used get great worms doing this as long as you don't mind the smell. I used get over a kilo at times, so well worth looking into, normall the worms you get are red worms which are great for tench.
