Thumbs down Fished with braid for the first time

Fished with braid for the first time ever today.
I loaded my centrepin with Berkley Whiplash 4lb braid for using at close range on the lake today.

Absolute nightmare!

I found it impossible to cast, it seemed to grip the rod rings. every breath of wind caught the line and i ended up in some right tangles which refused to untangle. my main bugbear was the fact that even with a heavy float on, a two finger cast just wouldn't get out there leaving line hanging all over the place.

I checked all the rod rings etc and all was fine. I stripped it all off and re spooled with mono and stopped swearing.

Was this just me or have others had similar problems?

Re: Fished with braid for the first time

Braid is not ideal for centrepin or multiplier reels as due to the line lay it tends to bed in. It's really only suitable for a fixed spool reel which lays the line on the spool at an angle & stops this problem. Shallow spools are the best.

Re: Fished with braid for the first time

Came off the reel no problem. Didn't dig in at all, I never put more than 50yards of line on anyway to prevent this. It seemed to grip the rings on the rod.
