A few beginners questions/ help please... part 2

Question 1. May be a silly one to start....however... if fishing maggots... say three on a size 14 hook... how long would you leave the maggots on the hook before changing? Can you fish with them all day if necessary?

Question 2. If you are fishing a water with some big fish ...like tench over 5 or 6 pounds up to about say 10 pounds ... what is the lowest braking strain hook link you would use? Also, what size hook?

Finally can anyone recommend a good reel for playing quite large Tench? I went out today and lost 3 very good fish because on each occasion the hook link of 3 pounds snapped and the disc drag on a new reel I bought seems to be very sticky whilst playing fish.

Kind regards,

Fitz

1. maggots can br left on all day if you want, although i prefer to change them when they looked sucked or drowned. I normally change baits every 15-20 min or so.
2. I would use 6lb main line with 4lb hook, going to 6lb straight through if your getting smashed up. Hook size depends on the day. I would usually use a size 8 or 10, but if bites are hard to come by i would move down to a 14 or 16 . most decent reels will do he job just set the drag carefully or play the fish on backwind
