Help with pole fishing

Hi guys
Could anybody please explain the art of pole fishing, For the last few years ive been a beach and boat fisherman and have now decided to come ashore and fish lakes and rivers. Last week i bought a 9.3 metre pole with 16 elastic, now ive been out today and caught a Perch to 3lb and carp of various weights and was just wondering what breaking strain elastic i really need as the lad in the tackle shop wasnt too sure.
Thanks ss

Re: Help with pole fishing

I can recommend the following book. I know both the authors very well and despite that also gave it a decent review:

"Perch to 3lb" - that's a cracking start!

Re: Help with pole fishing

Welcome Stan
At 9.3 m I would be pretty certain it's a carp pole & would need strong elastic (like the 16).
Match poles which would use lighter elastics are longer 12.5 - 16.5 m in length and would have finer tips for smaller elastics.
Good luck on the puddles & rivers - re-tackling for frashwater will be fun if you are a tackle tart, I hope you are rich as well
