Re: Basic Starters kit

Left one very important thuing.

Like it or not you will need a license.

Get caught without one and you could be handing all your gear to the courts, get fined and a criminal record.

Though when you do see the EA bailiff give him a wave from me, have only ever seen one.

Thanks alot for the info Steve.....sorry to be of trouble.... but what would you recommend as a starter / beginners kit for tench.

If its not too much trouble mate.... could you also include bait and any good venues as a day ticket water around North London ... Herts or here abouts.

Thanks in advance....if you guys arrange a social.... a pint will be yours....

Funny you saying that mate... I was asked for my licence 5 or 6 times last year. Mainly at places like Rutland or Grafham where I was fly fishing last year.

When I was course fishing Broxbourne weir pool last week 2 guys from the EA pulled up in a van and asked for licences. It was good to see them actually as I was talking to a guy from the Tottenham area ... who spoke at length about the poaching that was going on around the River Lea/ walthamstow reservior areas by the influx of some Eastern Europeans. It makes my blood boil that people in this country would even consider taking course fish home.

Re: Basic Starters kit

I actually support a license for inland fishing and coming down on those taking fish without permission like a ton of bricks.

My point was that even though I have only ever seen ONE bailiff in the wild, I still have always had a license.

I know a local EA guy who will sit and watch poachers till they unload their catch and gear in to a car and THEN pounce. As he can confiscate any equipment used to poach they lose their car too.

I would welcome seeing a bailiff every time I went as at least then I'd know they were watching.

I was also a club bailiff for a short period, years ago, and it is the most thankless task ever. So my pleas is be nice to them and the committee, they are (mostly) hard working beyond most members imaginations.
