Cool Can i use a carp rod??

hi there im looking to get back into course fishing. my question is if i was to buy a carp outfit could i then also use that for float fishing? or is there some sort of restriction with the rod/reel that make it unfit for purpose

Re: Can i use a carp rod??

no u r fine to float fish with it but after awhile i would start to think about investing in a float rod...lathams is cheap i got a top qulity float rod from there for £18. also the good thing is that u can have a float rod in the water if u invest and a ledger rod so u've got double the chance!!

jope this helps

Re: Can i use a carp rod??

this is exactly whad i did last year. for some reason, i couldn't my rod bag, but had most of my tackle.
i ended up buying the zebco carp set from argos, which provided me with new rods, reels, landing net, rod bag, unhooking matt/weighing sling & rod pod + a few otherr bits & pieces all for £99.
obviously with the cheaper kits, aren't always as good a quality, but i'm pleased with the kit & i was able to get back into fishing at what i thought was a reasonable cost.
i've only yesterday bought a new diawa twin tip rod (ledger & float tips) & a more sturdy rod pod system.
i only do coarse fishing & not bothered what i catch, but have found the carp rods are easy enough to use on small rivers & the local ponds/lakes without any problems, even small bites show on them, i'm not even using the bait detectors for anything other than front rests on the rod pod.
so as dominic says, getting a carp set to get started with, then look at buying a another rod later

Re: Can i use a carp rod??

Hi Blankface,

it is better to start somewhere and a carp outfit is a great intermediate point. I know there are guys in here that use them for Sea fishing. I have over 30 rods for different uses, but a carp outfit is probably the most versatile. Yes it's not great for huge fish or chucking out 4oz of lead for Mackerel, or trying to catch 3oz roach, but for most in between species it will give you loads of pleasure.
